An acclaimed one-person production of Hamlet is headed to Lowry on Wed 4 Jun.

Renowned classical actor Mark Lockyer leads the ingenious, funny and poignant take on Shakespeare’s masterpiece. With stripped-back yet stunning staging, Lockyer’s gripping and emotional solo performance is left to shine above all else.

Lockyer’s impressive credits list includes The Alchemist, The Tempest, Romeo and Juliet, King Lear and The Taming of the Shrew at the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as Laertes in Hamlet at the Globe, and Good and Theatre of blood at the National Theatre.

“To see Hamlet through the lens of my experiences gives it a unique credence. Like Hamlet, madness was my enemy too. Hamlet never made it. And many others never make it, but I did. The least I can do is tell his story.” says Mark.

Presented by Regeneration Theatre, the show is edited by Fiona Laird (RSC, National Theatre), whose directing credits include The Merry Wives of Windsor at the RSC, Oh What a Lovely War, and Guys and Dolls all at the National Theatre.

Speaking about Mark’s portrayal, Rufus Norris, Artistic Director of the Royal National Theatre, says: “Mark Lockyer has absolute commitment and mastery of this timeless classic.

“I cannot remember receiving Hamlet with more open ears and more abandon”
