A special winter ale trail is set to take over 65 pubs across Greater Manchester later this month.

Organised by the Stockport & South Manchester and High Peak Branches of CAMRA, and sponsored by Robinsons Brewery, the Winter Warmer Wander trail returned last year following a four-year hiatus.

The trail aims to showcase an array of seasonal-style beers, with a particular focus on stouts, porters, old ales and barley wines, and other beers that have been brewed specifically for Christmas.

Pubs all over the region are taking part, with stops in Stockport, Marple, Ashton-Under-Lyne, Didsbury, Altrincham, Heaton Mersey, Heaton Moor and the city centre.

Along with showcasing these new and special beers, organisers hope the trail will encourage participants to discover a few new pubs, as well as visit their old favourites, of course.

Those taking part can even be in with the chance of winning prizes. Anyone who visits 12 different pubs throughout the duration of the trail and drinks at least a half-pint of cask-conditioned winter beer in each can collect a sticker and claim three bottles of beer.

There are additional prizes, such as Winter Warmer Wander clothing and beer cases, available to anyone collecting 24, 36 or 65 different stickers. You can download an entry form here.

Organiser Sue Lightfoot said: “Winter Warmer Wander provides a bit of fun in the run-up to Christmas, and gives you the chance to visit familiar haunts and experience new watering-holes, as well as win prizes.

“The number of excellent winter ales to be found in Stockport’s pubs is astonishing, and I’m sure you will find something to tickle the taste buds. Our pubs have had a rough few years, so please go along and support them, and celebrate with wonderful warming seasonal beers from the best independent breweries.”

The Winter Warmer Wander trail runs from Fri 15 Nov – Sun 29 Dec. For more information and a full list of participating pubs, click here.
