This May, the critically acclaimed German film Two to One is set to screen in Manchester, bringing a light-hearted yet piercingly insightful ensemble comedy about friendship, community, love and capitalism to UK cinemas in partnership with renowned independent film distribution and cinema support agency, Tull Stories.

Showing regularly at HOME from Fri 2 May, Two To One transports audiences back in time to the long, sweltering East German summer of 1990, where tight-knit childhood friends Maren, Robert and Volker are preparing themselves for the uncertain fallout of forthcoming reunification. When the trio stumble upon a fortune in imminently worthless currency left in government storage, they scramble to figure out how to make the most of their impossible windfall with just days left to use it.

Assembling friends and neighbours from their derelict apartment block, the newly minted musketeers devise an elaborate plan to exchange all the cash they can for valuable goods, all while outmaneuvering the looming capitalist world as it crests the horizon.

Hailed as ‘a wild story delivered with verve and a suitable degree of irreverence’ by Eye for Film and voted runner-up for the Audience Award following a critically acclaimed run at Glasgow Film Festival, Two To One promises a hilarious and profoundly heart-warming cinema experience featuring stand-out performances from Oscar nominee Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest, Toni Erdmann), Max Riemelt (Berlin Syndrome, Sense8,) and Ronald Zehrfeld (Phoenix, Barbara).

Speaking about sharing the film with UK audiences, director Natja Brunckhorst said: “I’ve always admired the brilliant absurdity of British humour—and Monty Python lit my childhood. So it’s a real privilege to see now our comedy about capitalism and friendship TWO TO ONE opening its UK run on 2nd May… 500,000 Germans laughed about it. Clearly, it’s either comedy gold or hilariously off. Give it a try.

Two To One is open in cinemas nationwide from Fri 2 May. Find out more about screening times and locations below.
