Until Sunday, the Lowry and Media City play host to a one-of-a-kind theatre experience. Armed only with a sturdy pair of shoes and a rucksack (given to you at the box office), visitors are guided through a series of mini-encounters by actors, many of whom are hidden around various parts of Media City and the newly built public spaces around the Quays. There is just one rule. If you say yes to what they suggest, the show continues. If you say no, it doesn’t. It’s a simple idea, put into practice by co-writers Morgan Lloyd Malcolm (shortlisted for The Charles Wintour Most Promising Playwright Award 2011) and Katie Lloyd (her colleague on site-specific shows for the Latitude and Edinburgh Festivals). The play was first seen as a site-specific piece for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last year, and after the performance was met with acclaim from all corners, it was re-written and performed on the streets of Camden. Part of a national trend seeing performances and exhibitions in unexpected environments where the location plays as big a part as the show (see our Blair Witch forest screening preview).

Until Sun 16 Sep, The Lowry, Pier 8, Salford Quays, Salford, M50 3AZ. Tel: 0161 876 2057. Performances every ten minutes between 5pm to 7.50pm, weekend matinees. From £10. thelowry.com
