On Mon 3 and Tue 4 Jun, world-renowned dancer and choreographer Ae-soon Ahn presents a mystifying, mesmeric spectacle of visceral yet flawlessly precise Korean dance forms with Cheok at The Lowry, staged in partnership with the National Asian Culture Center Foundation.

Drawing on Korean dance traditions alongside her profound perspective on Eastern aesthetics, Ahn weaves a spellbinding tapestry of majestic solos and interdependent group sequences to explore new connections between humans and rediscover traditional Asian values. Immersed in a vivid, stirring landscape of light, video, sound and movement, the six ethereal performers conjure enchanting scenes in which ‘memories of ancient systems offer a key to the future’.

Named after the traditional Asian standard of measurement meaning ‘span of the hand’, Cheok defies homogeneity and challenges the boundaries of social convention to offer a stunning meditation on the subjective nature of precision.
