Opening this month, Manchester Craft & Design Centre welcomes interdisciplinary artist Alinah Azadeh for the first Northern viewing of her solo show, The Gifts of the Departed. Made up of objects belonging to her late mother, each wrapped in cloth, the exhibition is an ongoing project started in 2009 that works to express separation, loss and longing. The work is particularly influenced by the quick succession of the birth of her first child and the death of her mother in the Asian Tsunami, which led to a change in direction for her sculptural and instillation work and with a focus on human experience. Originally shown at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, the exhibition launches at the Craft & Design Centre on Saturday 23 Nov from 2pm – 5pm, featuring a talk with Alinah about her work, a drinks reception and a performance from the Manchester String Quartet.
