The BBC Philharmonic offers a special rhythm-heavy programme showcasing works by Thomas Adès and John Adams at the Bridgewater Hall on Friday 6 December. The concert, featuring virtuoso percussionist Colin Currie (pictured) and the orchestra’s chief conductor Juanjo Mena, includes Adès’ These Premises Are Alarmed, commissioned for the opening of the Bridgewater Hall in 1996, and Adams’ Slonimsky’s Earbox, also written in 1996. The night will also feature percussion concerto Rough Music, written by the orchestra’s Composer/Conductor HK Gruber, plus Turina’s flamboyant ballet Ritmos and Ginastera’s exuberant cowboy ballet Estancia. Based in MediaCityUK, the BBC Philharmonic is widely recognised as one of the finest orchestras in Europe. The concert will be preceded by a preview at 6.30pm.
