Aiming to help people create their own works of literature is the Altrincham Word Fest. This two-week celebration, which begins this Saturday, features 15 events – including writing workshops, drama and poetry performance, and a stand-up show. Standouts include an evening with Cath Staincliffe, the creator of TV series ‘Blue Murder’, and writer of the Sal Kilkenny private eye books. She will discuss her ‘life of crime’ and her latest novels which deal with contemporary issues like transphobic hate crime. Dave Haslam, the legendary DJ from the Hacienda, will be talking about his memoir ‘Sonic Youth Slept on my Floor’. A personal story which touches on our local history, Dave describes meeting such iconic characters as Mark E Smith, Tony Wilson, and John Lydon. The writer, editor, and creative writing lecturer Nicholas Royle will be hosting an event to give advice about finding a publisher – either online or in print – for your work.
