Launching this week is a new exhibition which focuses on the relationship between art and people’s well-being. ‘And Breathe…’ was co-curated by Manchester Art Gallery and a community mental health group. Following a series of mindfulness sessions, they created an exhibit where everything is designed to encourage people to spend time in the space and reduce their level of stress. The artworks on display are a mix of the historic and the contemporary. You’ll find 19th century seascapes, more abstract modernist works, and also photographic pieces. An audio resource with a range of timed mindful meditations will be available. ‘And Breathe…’ will be in place for a full year, and it will vary from season to season. The exhibition is part of the ‘Mindful Museum’ campaign, which aims to raise awareness of how mindfulness can be used by the cultural sector.
