Abandon Normal Devices brings its celebration of new cinema, digital culture and art back to Liverpool in October as the festival returns for its fifth year. This time, though, the programme takes a departure from previous years as it becomes smaller and more focused, opening with a week of artists’ workshops before a three-day showcase of the resulting works. Also new to programme will be the AND Fair, which takes its inspiration from ‘World’s Fairs of old’, featuring optical illusions, flying machines, biological probes and computer algorithms. Taking the theme of ‘making the impossible possible’, other highlights include manipulating computer networks at NETworkshop, a guide to making art in a toxic environment by conceptual artist Adam Brown, sonic and visual extremism from HIVE and an extensive choice of UK premieres and Q&A sessions. With many events having only limited places, we recommend booking ahead. For a full list of events and prices, see AND’s website.
