Having designed over 200 record sleeves in over 20 years of his graphic design day job Andy Votel is spreading his wings with six full size paintings/collages to be on show at Electrik in Chorlton in Spring 2018. Stop Making Séance will be based around contemporary “fakelore”, reducing influences of European science-fiction art, scholastic illustration, post-pop-art, Plakatstil and mid-century graphic design Andy uses simple methods of painting, collage, deletion and recontextualisation for these one-off, large format placards. Kicking off with an opening party featuring a mystery DJ (with the Chorlton bar’s track record it’ll no doubt be a goodun – Thu 25 Jan) and ending with a closing one deck DJ set from Jane Weaver (Wed 28 Feb) it’s a must for fans of art, music and generally having a good drink.
