To celebrate its 30th birthday, Castlefield Gallery has asked a selection of its most impressive alumni and associates – names that include artist Ryan Gander, critic JJ Charlesworth and curator Hans Ulrich Obrist – to each choose an emerging artist they believe will shape the future of contemporary art. Handing over total responsibility for the exhibition to these 14 ‘nominators’, this small but mighty arts space will host works from painting to sculpture, via playful hybrids and, apparently, a daunting number of video-based pieces. The show includes work such as The Talking Cave (2014) by Timothy Foxon, pictured. Opening in December, the ambitious exhibition may well pinpoint the Tracey Emins, Sam Taylor Woods and Mark Quinns of tomorrow. Go along, and you might just get a glimpse into the future.
