On Fri 9 Feb, the Science and Industry Museum hosts Art Battle Manchester for an after-hours extravaganza of action-packed creative exploration.

Promising ‘the city’s most energetic art event’, Art Battle Manchester XXII – A Night At The Museum brings together ten dauntless visual artists in a head-to-head competition, during which each contestant will take centre stage for half an hour at a time to produce their unique masterpiece on a blank canvas, inspired by the museum’s historic buildings, captivating collections and rich heritage.

Taking place from 7pm-10.30pm, the contest pits illustrators, street artists, tattooists and others against one another in a night of boundless artistic entertainment, accompanied by DJs, performers, bars and pop-up food stalls. Audiences are free to move around the unfolding artistry, observing from every angle as each work is rendered in real time, before choosing the evening’s champion.

Alongside the main event, visitors can enjoy one-off performances and explore the fascinating galleries including Revolution Manchester, Textiles and the hands-on Experiment gallery in a unique after-hours museum experience.

Art Battle Co-Founder, John Macaulay, explained:
We love industrial buildings for our battles, and it doesn’t get more industrial than the Science & Industry Museum. Not only is it a beautiful heritage site it’s a space that promotes innovation. Let’s see what our brave artists can innovate in 30 minutes on a blank canvas with 500 people watching.

We know that the city’s industrial heritage, which the museum sits at the heart of, has long been a source of creative inspiration, and it will be brilliant to see this be brought to life on canvas in front of our eyes. It’s also fantastic to open our doors after-hours and give people a chance to explore all the incredible things the museum offers in a new light.
