Paradise Works presents the first solo exhibition from multimedia artist Cherry Tenneson (curated by Zoe Watson) previewing on Friday 29 March. With a background in signage and typography, Cherry continues to pull text into her practice. Half of Two Days of Everything is a body of sculptural works made up of disparate, everyday objects. The absurdity of the everyday is exposed through these unconventionally paired objects. Her work reveals inherent flaws and banality in the language of advertising, commodification and instructional procedures. Humorously small-scale, the work is intimately connected to the human body and how the viewer engages with it. In a special selected works Cherry also presents a series of paintings responding to social media and adverts. Each painting has a unique visual narrative that nods to the Instagram square with anonymous slogans. It is the miscommunication through self-publishing that interests Cherry – the urge to produce signs that seem to have no purpose or logic. It proves to be a fascinating and relevant collection. The preview also features a performance by Cherry Tenneson & Laura Weaver – taking an absurdist look at the impact of technology on society. The exhibition is open Saturdays noon-5pm, or by appointment. There are also two special events – a preview taking place on Friday 29 March, 6-8pm, and an in-conversation event with Cherry Tenneson and curator Zoe Watson on Saturday 13 April from 2-3pm.
