Whatever It Amounts To is a solo-exhibition by multi-disciplinary artist Hilary O’ Mahony. The project is inspired by the scratch cards discarded in the streets of a South Manchester suburb and the narratives of hope and disappointment behind them. Exploring these contradictory emotions, the work uses the National Lottery as a conceptual tool for delving into themes of value, identity and self-pursuit and calls into question the ethics of a game in which the odds of winning are several million to one. The show is hosted by Partisan Collective, a co-operative encouraging independent political and cultural events around the city.
