An award-winning Stockport bookshop has finally reopened, marking the occasion with a packed programme of literary events.

After a brief closure last month, Simply Books is back open. With a brand-new coffee shop and menu, a huge list of literary events for all ages and a refreshed look, the new and improved venue promises to be a haven for readers of all ages and tastes.

Nestled on Moss Lane in Bramhall, Simply Books promises to be a cornerstone of the community, offering a carefully curated selection of books ranging from contemporary bestsellers to timeless classics. In addition to fiction and non-fiction titles, the bookshop will feature a dedicated children’s section.

“We are thrilled to continue the incredible legacy of Simply Books,” said Ben Johns, the co-owner of Simply Books.
“We know that a local bookshop is an essential part of a vibrant community and we’re incredibly invested in delivering local events, from children’s morning reading sessions to creative writing classes in our new dedicated events space.”

The next event to hit Simply Books is a book launch for journalist Harriet Constable’s debut novel, The Instrumentalist, which has been named an Observer Top 10 debut for 2024 taking place on Wed 11 Sep at 7.30pm.

The captivating novel, which transports readers to the dazzling yet perilous streets of Venice in 1704, is inspired by the true story of Anna Maria della Pietà, an orphan, musical prodigy, and student of Antonio Vivaldi.

Anna Maria’s journey is one of fierce determination and resilience, navigating the challenges posed by her status and gender. Under the tutelage of a demanding maestro, her star begins to rise, but her ascent threatens to overshadow her mentor, putting her dreams in jeopardy. This evocative novel paints a vivid picture of ambition, loss, and triumph in the quest for greatness.

In addition to the discussion, the evening, hosted by journalist Rhiannon Ingle, will feature a live violin performance by the wildly talented Helen Chen, bringing the music of the era to life and creating a truly immersive experience that links directly with the themes of the book.

Simply Books is committed to supporting local authors and will regularly host book launches, readings, poetry open mic nights and creative writing workshops. The shop will also partner with local schools and community groups to promote literacy and a love for reading among residents of all ages.
