A brand new festival dedicated to the joy of free time is set to take over Salford this weekend, bringing an eclectic programme that spans sports, music, comedy, theatre, dance, food and wellness.

We Invented the Weekend will take place across Sat 10 Sep and Sun 11 Sep, and organisers have drafted in some of Manchester’s most beloved institutions to get involved with the festivities and to celebrate some of the incredible talent the North West has to offer.

Among those names are the folks from Band on the Wall, who along with Sounds From The Other City, will be hosting two special, free shows in the main cafe bar space at The Lowry in Salford Quays on Sunday afternoon.

Getting things going from 2pm is iamkyami, who blends otherworldly glimmer-swirl indie RnB with ‘poly-gluttonous punk attitude’.

Next up, a towering beacon of positivity, Mickey Callisto, brings psychedelic, bedroom-made synth-pop bangers from 4pm.

Along with the performances, there will be a chance for little ones to unearth any hidden musical talents, with the Club Dada music workshop running in the front of the cafe between 1.30pm – 3pm.

Suitable for all ages, entry is completely free. For more information, visit the Band on the Wall website. You can check out the full We Invented The Weekend lineup here.
