The Banff Mountain Film Festival is a cinematic celebration of the great outdoors. It began in the eponymous Canadian town, and proved so successful that it became a touring event. The festival will come to the Stockport Plaza cinema on two separate nights in January and February. Each night will feature a selection of the best short films about extreme sports and outdoor pursuits. Films include ‘The Ridge’, which seeks world-famous trials rider, Danny MacAskill, cycling along the Isle of Skye’s terrifying Cuillin ridge, the life-changing story of a 90-year-old war veteran turned fly-fisher (Drawn), and a short about a skiiing dog in the wilds of Patagonia (Sun Dog). Closer to home there’s an in-depth portrait of downhill bike specialist and stunt man Rob Jarman, as he tackles Skidaw in ‘All my Own Stunts’ plus a film about speedriding (where paragliding meets skiing), called ‘Unrideables’. Expect adrenaline-fuelled escapades, and also more though-provoking pieces – all shot in the in the world’s last wild places. There will be a different selection of films on each night, and there is a special offer for those attending both events. This event typically sells out – so we recommend getting your tickets in now.
