Of all the stages at this year’s Sounds from the Other City festival, it was perhaps Slip Discs that was the most in keeping with the essence of the event – challenging and strange, but weirdly brilliant (especially as it was in the intimate surrounds of The Deli Lama). Presenting this showcase at Soup Kitchen, they bring back two of the acts from that day – indeed, the two that are signed to their own label – with a split set from idiosyncratic visionary Caroline Haines (or Chaines as she is known on stage) and experimental composer Tom Rose. Topping the bill are two of the biggest boundary-breaking acts around. Though Micachu gained international acclaimed through her debut album and consequent touring with a full live band, her mixtapes and compositional works have been equally as exciting and brilliant, which means this DJ set should be something to behold. Bass Clef – headliners here – has released on Idle Hands, Punch Drunk and his own Magic Dreams imprint, promising ‘deep rhythmic undertow’ and ‘low-end theories surveying peak-era rave’, something which should set tongues wagging and, hopefully, feet moving.
