BBC Radio 3 unveils incredible lineup of ‘Manchester Week’ performances

The first ever BBC Radio 3 Manchester week celebrates a host of the city’s most exciting talent and beloved venues.

Kicking off on Mon 24 Jan and running through until Fri 28 Jan, expect a week of both live and pre-recorded performances from settings like Bridgewater Hall, The Stoller Hall, The White Hotel and Media City, home of the BBC Philharmonic.

The festival will bring together both up-and-coming artists and renowned veterans of the city’s eclectic music scene.

A series of five Radio 3 In Concert programmes will showcase a wonderous variety of Manchester’s finest groups, while four Lunchtime Concerts will come live from The Stoller Hall. Introduced by Elizabeth Alker, these performances will feature emerging talents from the current and former crop of BBC New Generation Artists, including: pianist Pavel Kolesnikov, tenor Alessandro Fisher and pianist Kunal Lahiry; the Consone Quartet; and the Mithras Trio.

Getting things underway on Monday will be the immensely-popular Manchester Camerata, along with conductor Alexander Sitovetsky, in a specially pre-recorded all-Mozart programme that includes Piano Concerto No 9 ‘Jeunehomme’ with soloist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet.

Also featured will be a performance from experimental music group Manchester Collective who took over The White Hotel in December, Chloë Hanslip and the Northern Chamber Orchestra as recorded at The Stoller Hall, the BBC Philharmonic presenting the Cello Concerto by Manchester-born William Walton live from Media City and Sir Mark Elder and the Hallé Orchestra in a pre-recorded recital of Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 at Bridgewater Hall.
