Lovers of pop-art should head to HOME from November for new exhibition Bearded Brutes, which features kitsch photographic portraits full of colour, glitter, and – perhaps unsurprisingly – beards. The pictures combine the masculinity of the bearded blokes with the camp flamboyance of heavy make-up and theatrical poses. The show is the brainchild of artist Mark Leeming, who is the sole photographer, make-up artist, art director, and stylist. His aim is to explore the feminine in the masculine (and vice-a-versa) and to provide an offbeat look into the duality of the modern man. On the first day of the exhibition there will be a preview night in HOME’s ground floor bar. You might even see some of the titular brutes there, possible hitting the dance floor. Bearded Brutes is part of HOME Projects, an ongoing series of exhibitions that focus on supporting emerging local artists and independent curators and celebrate some of the lesser explored areas of the creative world.
