Celebrated for their energetic live shows, Manchester-based group Beating Wing Orchestra – comprising musicians from refugee communities and other diverse heritages, who formed for Manchester International Festival 2007 – are sure to deliver one of Manchester Jazz Festival 2012’s most dynamic performances. Led by vocalists Emmanuela Yogolelo and Jaheda Choudhury, the collective’s toolkit of strings, drums and percussion tests the melting points of jazz, Congolese melody, Eastern European folk, Bangla hip hop and Sufiana, resulting in a unique, intense fusion style – and here they treat us to not one but two 50-minute improvisatory sets.
