Typically, there are about three different activities that card companies think dads enjoy: you can either get a card with some form of sport on the front; one with some gardening puns on; or one suggesting that he loves to drink beer more than anyone else in the world. So, with the conundrum of which Clinton Card pigeonhole you should shove your Dad in this Father’s Day coming up, Lyme Park presents their Beer and Bulbs weekend. Set in its glorious grounds (you may have seen them in the much-loved Colin Firth-starring BBC adaptation of Pride & Prejudice way back when), it will be selling daffodil and hyacinth bulbs from its own spring bedding at £3 a bag (and you can fill your own, too) as well as having stands manned by local breweries selling their finest ales, featuring Beartown Brewery from Congleton, Dunham Massey Brewery, Bollington Brewery and – new for this year – Tickety Brew of Stalybridge. Okay, so there might not be much of the sport card stereotype involved, but stick a football in the boot in case your old man fancies a kickabout and you’re golden for another year.
