Much-loved Eccles Pub, The Queens Arms, has been officially named Britain’s Best in the Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Pubs 2026 rankings.

The historic Grade II-listed boozer is considered to be one of the world’s oldest surviving passenger railway pubs, sitting just across the way from Patricroft Station.

These days, the Victorian building leads an unlikely second life as a Japanese-style izakaya, serving a rightfully acclaimed menu that features dishes like katsu, noodle bowls, eel and wagyu burgers. The pub had faced closure a couple of years back, but is now proving a major hit thanks to friends and new owners, Anthony Sit and Mr. Lo.

Reacting to the accolade on Instagram, the team said the recognition was a ‘dream come true’.

“When we first took over The Queens Arms, we had a dream of bringing new life to this historic 1828 pub, combining the charm and heritage of a traditional British pub with our passion for Japanese cuisine.” They wrote.

“It has been quite a journey, and this recognition means so much to us.”

Elsewhere in the Good Food Guide’s 100 Best Pub rankings were spots for The Marble Arch, which placed 36th, and The Trof, which featured at 76th following its recent relaunch. You can read the full list here.
