With echoes of Joni Mitchell for the post-folk generation, Beth Jeans Houghton returns to Manchester in support of her latest album Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose. Harking back to a bygone era of female songstresses with influences as diverse as Nico and Joan Baez fused with the ferocity of Brody Dalle, Houghton creates a brand of 21st century folk that is enthrallingly original and doesn’t conform to the stereotype of nostalgic verbatim that fills much of mainstream pop music today. Expect a rousing and uplifting set from an artist coming into her own.
