Along with paper hats and bunting, a dog running down a street with a string of sausages in its mouth is a nostalgic image of Great Britain. The Northern Quarter may well bring these emotive images together on Sunday, as en vogue meat peddlers SoLIta and shabby chic café-bar Home Sweet Home provide two of the more interesting pop-ups as the city centre cuts loose for an all-out street party on Sunday. Breaking from the usual tripartite of Pimms, BBQ and Ray-Bans, Edge Street’s Home Sweet Home (in conjunction with Tib Street’s Simple) will be welcoming Manchester’s growing pooch population for the quarter’s inaugural Dog Show. The pageant, taking place on Oak Street, will divvy out various prizes while hoping that the canine clientele do not scarper down the road to SoLIta. On Turner Street, tuck into Solita’s famous Mac and Cheese balls and Pulled Pork Sundaes to sounds provided by a massive rig and a bunch of DJs, including Xfm’s Gareth Brooks and Ciaran Griffiths, known for his role as Mickey Maguire in TV’s Shameless.
Northern Quarter, noon-9pm, prices vary.
