Ordsall Hall in Salford will be hosting a vintage-style picnic on Sunday 3 August. Visitors should pack food to enjoy in the hall’s beautiful gardens, before taking part in the many activities organised for the day. There will be exhibitions, a film screening and new work by artists and community groups. Attendees can try their hand at creating things in the art and crafts marquee, while foodies can enjoy a selection of traditional produce on offer. There will also be a sing-along of wartime songs, and other music and poetry performances. Free tickets can be booked via Eventbrite, or visitors can simply turn up on the day. The event is part of Poppy, a wide-ranging World War I centenary project that aims to explore a contemporary, conceptual view of the conflict. There will be other Poppy events taking place throughout 2014.
