The Northern Quarter’s marvellously bohemian bar and restaurant, The Blue Pig, has a new cocktail menu aimed at keeping the winter blues at bay. Created with cocktail guru Jody Monteith, the new drinks selection takes in house specials, classic cocktails with a twist and famous recipes. Prepare to be surprised as the classics selection is one of the most ambitious we’ve come across, taking in everything from an on-trend Cobbler (port, rye whisky, grenadine, lemon, angostura bitters, £8) to vintage blends such as the Mex-y El Diablo, featuring tequila, lime and ginger ale, £7, and a calvados and peach brandy-based Delicious Sour (£7). Twisted classics include Maple Old Fashioned (£7.50), Basil Bramble (gin, blackcurrant, basil, lemon, sugar, £7) and a combination of gin, cherry and violet liqueurs, all topped over with a sprinkling of Palma Violet dust called The Earhart (£7 pictured). Fancy dipping your toe in the fire water? Pop in during happy hour when selected drinks are £5/6 Monday to Thursday (5-7pm) and Fridays 5 til 9pm. Browse the full cocktail menu here. The Blue Pig is now listed on home food delivery service, Deliveroo, too – so even if you can’t make it out, you can still order a burger and more from the bar. Read our story here.
