Bury might not be the first place you would associate with ancient Japanese living art forms, but nevertheless the town will be host to ‘Bonsai Europa 2015’ in October. The venue will be the Castle Armoury, a popular exhibition space. The biggest event of its kind in the UK, the two day celebration will present Bonsai artists from around the world, who will be showcasing their prize specimens. There will be an extensive marketplace of 30 traders selling the trees, and everything you need to grow them. Experts will be giving demonstrations on how to master this discipline which requires an understanding of the biological, artistic, and even spiritual aspects of cultivation. This is a family-friendly event, and children ages seven and over can take part in a hands-on workshop, which will include a free tree to take home. The venue is only 5 minutes’ walk from Bury Interchange and is very close to the town’s Mill Gate shopping centre.
Sat 10 – Sun 11 Oct, The Castle Armoury, Castle Street, Bury, BL9 0LB, 9.30am – 5.30pm, £10, www.bonsaieuropa.com
