To some, the idea of a ‘hit podcast’ might sound like an oxymoron, but Welcome to Night Vale is so popular that it has spawned a touring live show, which is coming to Albert Hall in September. Night Vale is a scripted comedy that takes the form of a radio news programme from a creepy desert town. Cecil Baldwin is the syrup-voiced host, and for the live incarnation he will be joined on stage by special guest performers. Slots such as weather updates, announcements and horoscopes all humorously reveal the hellish goings on in the town. You’ll hear about local personalities such as The Faceless Old Woman who Secretly Lives in Your Home, and Hiram McDaniels, a five-headed dragon and mayoral candidate. The show features new scripts that haven’t been heard on the podcast, all set to live music.
