If the combination of words “hot” and “chip” brings to mind only a single, golden, glistening potato-based snack, then christ on a bike, have we got some news for you. A British institution who has released five albums to date (Why Make Sense? comes out 18th May), this five-piece have become undoubtedly pioneers in the realms of indie-synthpop-dance. Each album is as notable as the last, with tracks from The Warning and Made in the Dark filling many a dance floor speakers (WERE we Ready for the Floor? Did you even have to ask!?). Despite focus on side projects (Joe Goddard being one half of The 2 Bears and Al Doyle and Felix Martin making up New Build), they’ve still developed a reputation for live shows that are leaking in energy and beat-heavy improvisations; their Gorilla show in May sold out spectacularly quickly. But fret not! They have been invited back to our rainy city in October. Prepare for speedy fingers that would make Glastonbury ticket sales proud.

Sat 17 Oct, Albert Hall, 22 Peter Street, Manchester M2 5QR, 7pm, £22.50. Tickets on sale Fri 24 Apr, 10am,  www.seetickets.com
