We’re offering Manchester Wire readers £10 tickets to enjoy Northern Chamber Orchestra’s season finale as Orchestra in Association at The Stoller Hall, rounding off their International Women’s Day 2019 celebrations with violinist Chloë Hanslip. Entitled This Woman’s Work, this finale concert is directed by NCO Artist in Association Hanslip, playing first as part of the ensemble, and then stepping out to take on the role of soloist. Opening the concert, attendees can enjoy Hugo Wolf’s enchanting Italian Serenade, followed by the short but sweet Elegy by Grace Williams, generally regarded as Wales’ most notable female composer. Chloë then takes on JS Bach’s A-minor violin concerto, before continuing as soloist in the second half, playing Arvo Pärt’s atmospheric and virtuosic Fratres; a piece for violin, strings and single percussionist. Bringing the concert to its climax is Tchaikovsky’s popular Serenade for Strings in C major, Op. 48, an energetic piece that showcases the great Russian composer at the height of his powers. For those who miss out – or perhaps just need a second helping – the concert is repeated at Macclesfield’s Heritage Centre on Saturday 11 May (7.30pm), and Buxton’s St John’s Church on Sunday 12 May at 4pm.
