Although the weather might not have changed too much since then, it feels like a long time ago since the sold out Psychmare Before Christmas at Soup Kitchen in December. Hookworms – the headliners that time – have since gone on to create one of the albums of the year, and have been on the up and up ever since, and while they’re probably thinking about planning their own arena tour sometime soon (god, we hope so), the psych-based promotion punnery is back for its bi-annual soiree. A Midsummer Psych’s Dream might not roll off the tongue quite as easily, but the line-up is sure to delight. Horrid – a Manchester band with only one much vaunted show to their name so far – open, with GNOD side-project Druss and Dwellings coming in as main support. Kraut/psych/space/noise legends – and the last band to record a session with John Peel – come back to the rainy city for the first time in ages to most likely pack out Soup Kitchen’s basement.
