Tickets are on sale now for an immersive, artist-led dining experience at the Whitworth. Inspired by Anthony Burgess’s writing about food and booze, guests at this one-off event will enjoy three course meal, cocktail, performances integrated into the meal, handmade tablewares and live oyster shucking, with plenty more surprises planned along the way. The meal and performance is based on recipes found in Burgess’s novels which include hotpot, ‘hell-gravy’ and a ridiculously potent cocktail, aptly named Hangman’s Blood. Playful dinner table moments will spice up the evening, which is curated by Feast journal Laura Mansfield with the support of the International Anthony Burgess Foundation and Dust Collective, and cocktail consultancy courtesy of Manchester Wire’s Ruth Allan. The meal marks the end of the Manchester International Festival exhibition No End to Enderby and the launch of a new publication called Hot Pots, a collection of writings about Lancashire hotpot in Burgess’s books.
