Manchester’s Agbeko bring their afrobeat-inspired rock-funk-psych to the Pink Room at YES this March, going from strength to strength following a slew of high profile festival appearances and increasing national radio play. The raucous 11-piece group are inspired by West African music of the 1970s and also draw on psychedelic rock, funk and jazz influences to hone their signature sound. With live guitars, brass, percussion and vocals, it’s a live spectacle that occasionally verges on cacophony, yet somehow always manages to transfer that energy into something melodic and beautiful. Their double A-side single, Leaders of the Free World/Submit, dropped in 2019 on Manchester’s own Stutter & Twitch Records, while the group are presently working on their debut full-length: a half live, half studio release. There’s no better time to experience the anthemic, mad magic of Agbeko.
