Acclaimed folk band The Unthanks are swinging by The Ritz in March in support of their latest album. Fronted by Northumbrian sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank (pictured), the band have long been darlings of the folk scene, but their appeal stretches much further than the usual tweedy types. In the band’s decade-long history, they have gained chart success and a Mercury Award nomination, for 2007’s The Bairns. Earlier this month, the group released Mount the Air, their first album of original material in over four years. Despite being courted by major record labels, they recorded the album in their own studio and released it independently. It received glowing reviews across the board, with special acclaim heaped on the 10-minute-long orchestrated title track. You might have heard several of the tracks – including Flutter, below – being showcased on Radio 2 and 6 Music.
