The BBC Philharmonic tackle two of classical music’s big-hitters at the Bridgewater Hall later this month. The Media City-based orchestra will perform Elgar’s majestic Second Symphony – the composer’s last completed symphony – and Chopin’s First Piano Concerto, with noted Chopin specialist Garrick Ohlsson on the keys. With Lutoslawski’s colourful Symphonic Variations, the Polish composer’s orchestral debut, completing the programme – and the Philharmonic’s chief conductor Juanjo Mena (pictured) at the helm throughout – it promises to be a night to remember at the Bridgewater Hall. What’s more, stall tickets start at just £10.
