Former Gomez frontman Ben Ottewell is set to perform at Deaf Institute as part of a tour for his third solo album, A Man Apart. The Manchester show is one of nine UK dates before he heads to New Zealand and Australia. Since winning the Mercury Prize with indie rockers Gomez in 1998, he launched his solo segue with Shapes & Shadows in 2011 and has honed his songwriting skills with fellow Derbyshire-raised folkster Sam Genders, formerly of Tunng. The result has been a rootsy Americana-tinged style that has seen him compared with Tom Waits and Eddie Vedder.
