‘To celebrate that which sees beauty in a darker place’ is how Benjamin John Power, aka Blanck Mass, described Sacred Bones, label home of his newest LP, Dumb Flesh. It’s been four years since Power – who is also one half of Fuck Buttons – released his self-titled debut album. For this, his second offering, he has used modular synths and created a record with the live show in mind; the collective tracks connecting to each other melodically and – like the album artwork and title suggest – is an exploration into how somebody operates within, as opposed to the greater whole. The result is a series of biological, tortured vocal samples laid over grand synths and relentless percussion. Power’s been getting handy on his modulars – go and let him impress you.
