Since starting out just before the turn of the millennium, Simon Green – better known as Bonobo – has been one of the UK’s most brilliantly eclectic and talented producers. His ability to create intricate, complex rhythms from seemingly disparate samples has become one of his many trademarks – one of the many reasons for his fruitful and long-standing relationship with the Ninja Tune label. Following on from his massively acclaimed LP Black Sands (2010), it was with the fifth album of his career – The North Borders – that Bonobo finally found the wider audience he has long deserved, with Clash calling ‘a triumph – each listen is a revelation; seemingly it’s a breadth of work that marks a new, exciting era of electronic music’. Heady praise indeed. Though working alone on the creation of the album, Bonobo’s live show sees him play with a full ensemble, including strings and brass.
