For Lucy Hope, a powerful singer who has engaged with several musical genres, her album of Patrick Modiano songs is a vrai labour of love. The Nobel Prize-winning novelist penned pop lyrics as a sideline in the Sixties, notably for Francoise Hardy, and Manchester’s own Chanteuse brings them to contemporary life. Modiano was the subject of her Oxford Master’s dissertation but expect this launch concert to be more livewire than literary. She is supported by electrifying string quartet Manchester Collective in arrangements updated by Fiona Brice (Placebo, Anna Calvi, John Grant, Patrick Wolfe). In true French style, wine and liqueurs will be on sale on the night.
