Kicking off with a special launch on Saturday 22 September, classical music series Chopin & Champagne by Candlelight runs until July, both at the lovely St Ann’s Church here in Manchester and in the 1901 Arts Club in London. Doing exactly what it says on the tin, the concerts will present a selection of Chopin’s best works, each starting at 7.30pm, with a free glass of champagne for every audience member during the interval. Charged with all 10 concerts over the next ten months (except January) is pianist Warren Mailley-Smith, the first british concert pianist to perform Chopin’s complete works (234 pieces, 3.5 million notes) from memory in one series. A favourite of the Royal Family, he has performed at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall and his most recent CD was featured on Classic FM as Drive CD of the Week.
