Now in its 15th year, the Chorlton Book Festival is back to showcase the electrifying Mancunian literary scene. The festival kicks off at Chorlton Library on Sep 20 and continues until Sep 28 showcasing a celebration of Manchester’s premier poets, featuring powerhouse Tony Roberts among others. Hosting a variety of authors such as Caroline England and Karline Smith, the festival will also explore local residents’ writing, offering a chance to dip into the memories and stories as told by Manchester’s own locals through the community project Stories Of Our Lives. Chorlton Library will also play host to an evening with the multi-award winning literary whizz kids from the Flapjack Press poets as they release their publication The Anthology of Tomorrow. A fan-favourite event is the historical walk of Chorlton, led by local historian Andrew Simpson, as he tells the stories of the town and its surrounding area. Mixing history with humour, the walk explores the dark stories of the town alongside its working class history. The festival also includes family fun days – such as a musical storytime session – and a quiz at The Edge Theatre. Most events are free with details of the full programme found here. If you want to support local writing, then there are plenty of events at Chorlton Book Festival to buzz about this September.
