Extra Soul Perception is a collaboration project between eight international artists — comprising musicians, dancers, DJs, and producers — that brings them together to explore soul music in new and exciting ways. After completing a writing and performing residency in Nairobi, this show at Band on the Wall brings the newly-formed collective to Manchester to present their collaborations. The group features a very special roster of figures in the contemporary soul music scene, including: Maxwell Owin, a London-based DJ and producer (whose credits include Joe Armon-Jones); Lynda Dawn, an experienced gospel singer who has been featured on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Bubblers and recently released her debut EP; Karun, one of Kenya’s most celebrated soul performers, and Faizal Mostrixx, a Ugandan dancer and producer, recently appearing in RA’s 15 East African Artists You Need to Hear. Seeing what these artists have put together in unison will be a very special chance to see the cutting edge of contemporary and international soul music.
