Cultureplex, Manchester’s new contemporary community centre, welcomes HEARD – a monthly themed storytelling event – for the first time this September. HEARD has been running for the past 18 months as Spark, a highly popular open-mic night but is relaunching in celebration of its move to the new Piccadilly venue. HEARD combines stand-up comedy with confessional therapy, and is specifically not for professional performers. Anyone can stand up and tell a story – the only conditions are that it should be true, authentic and shorter than 6 minutes. The event aims to promote connection and community, and allows people to hear about experiences that are out with their usual circle with the event’s creator Caroline Dyer hoping the event brings people together in a ‘very open and honest way’. HEARD’s first theme at Cultureplex is ‘Square One’, and the event take place on Sun 29 Sep at 4pm. Tickets are £5 and there’s no pressure to perform – everyone is welcome (and encouraged!) to just sit down and listen. The event promises to be a great way to experience some genuine and heartfelt performances, and maybe even a platform for building your confidence and sharing your own experiences with a diverse audience.
