A collaboration between Manchester-based composer David McLean and pulp fiction author Phil Carney, Crime Scene is a residency and musical theatre performance exploring the relationship between film noir and jazz. McLean – an improviser and owner of experimental label Tombed Visions – will write music to accompany Carney’s writing, performed on the penultimate day of the residency by an ensemble of local musicians and actors. This new kind of ‘film noir theatre’ will be twinned with a gallery exhibition of artwork created by Carney’s own Bullet Proof Press, which will also showcase scripts and dialogue from the production’s rehearsals.
Wed 4 Jan – Sun 15 Jan, Islington Mill, James Street, Salford, M3 5HW. Tel: 0161 278 6404. Theatrical performance: Sat 14 Jan, 7pm, £6, www.samarbeta.co.uk
