Fusion restaurants can be a little bit hit and miss, but mix the melodic tones of Barcelona’s Delorean with Ireland’s O Emperor and you might be onto a multicultural winner of an evening. Delorean started life as a bunch of teenagers in the Basque country town of Zarautz, before seeking maturity from the easygoing Mediterranean club music scene, and from this came their celebrated 2010 LP, Suboza. Now the band are touring with their new work, Apar, which marks an even more sophisticated sound, embracing the luxury of Spanish coastal beats while channeling a strong emotional undercurrent. Listen to their new track, Spirit, below. This double-header pairs them with Waterford’s O Emperor, who are also releasing a new album, Vitreous. Unlike previous material, their new stuff has taken on a starker, more polychrome sound, with heavily distorted drums tapping away amid analogue synths and fuzz guitars – the sound of which is rather like bees in a tin can. After recording the album in their own studio, the output represents the work put in, marking the band’s most distinct sound to date.
