This winter, award-winning venue and promoter Band On The Wall have teamed with the grandiose Royal Exchange Theatre for a run of special, one-off concerts. One stand-out show from this exciting new series is sure to be a visit from electronic composer and DJ James Holden, playing material from his acclaimed 2017 LP ‘The Animal Spirits’. First making a name for himself as a straight-up trance and techno producer, his recent work has seen the musician build on his roots; self-described “folk-trance” encompassing 70s fusion jazz, deep grooves and a rich palate of synths. Recorded live in one room with his new ensemble, ‘The Animal Spirits’ was recorded in single takes with no overdubs and no edits, and found its way onto numerous end-of-year ‘Best Of…’ lists. Support for Holden’s performance at the Exchange Theatre comes from singer-songwriter Virginia Wing and instrumental double act XAM Duo.
