This August, the English Disco Lovers (EDL) bring their unique dance party to The Roadhouse. The name is quite deliberate, as the group’s aim is to subvert the acronym ‘EDL’ and reclaim it from the English Defence League. With their slogan of ‘Don’t Hate! Gyrate!’, the group use disco music, which has always been a haven for minorities, to spread the word about diversity and inclusiveness. The EDL have performed at Glastonbury and Shambala festivals, and garnered rave reviews from the Guardian and Time Out. Earlier on the same day, the group’s organiser Alex Jones (not the TV presenter, nor the conspiracy theorist) will be giving a talk about his work at the People’s History Museum.
