The team behind Escape to Freight Island have announced a brand-new, all-encompassing food and drink event to look forward to later this year when lockdown eases. The Kantina Weekender will run from Friday 28 to Monday 31 May at the iconic Depot Mayfield behind Piccadilly Station, and will play host to a diverse range of exciting treats to tuck into.
The line-up of featured restaurants has been curated with a passion for incredible food, craft-beers, new-world wines and liquors. The event will showcase the culinary talent Escape to Freight Island has to offer while introducing some of the UK’s most prestigious chefs, cocktail makers, brewers and local restaurant heroes for the very first time into to the space. Key collaborations include Mary-Ellen McTague and Great Northern Pies, Michelin-starred Mana chef Simon Martin and the teams behind Higher Ground and Dishoom. When it comes to drinks, punters will be treated to a special tipples from a Pomona Island, Northern Monk and Lervig combo, and wine-experts Charlie Miller of Laughing Heart and Dom the Som aka Dynamite MC.
During the weekend, Escape to Freight Island will host a vibrant roster of accompanying live entertainment, exclusive talks on stage, satellite events, wine tasting and a guaranteed feast for all. The event will also partner with charity Eat Well MCR – a Manchester collective made up of hospitality professionals and volunteers who deliver meals to people facing challenging circumstances in the Greater Manchester area.
